The Festive Makeup Edit

IMG_1330

This has to be the best time of year, glitter is officially acceptable to smear pretty much all over your face (maybe not quite) and the party dresses get a good dusting off ready to be rocked once again. What a perfect opportunity to share with you all my Festive Makeup Edit.

I recently picked up a new base, one that I’ve been lusting over for forever! Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua is the nicest foundation I have used in a very long time. It’s lightweight but leaves your skin looking fresh and dewy. It also has amazing staying power so perfect for christmas parties or nights out.

For concealer, I have a new love in my life. Kimmel match perfection is great for under the eyes. It brightens up the area and covers dark circles without being too thick and cakey. A perfect pairing with the foundation.

My bronzer never changes so I won’t talk about it too much again, but it’s obviously my Hoola by Benefit.  I’m going for a gorgeous berry blush in the form of Illamasqua’s Beg. A dusting of highlighter finishes off the base – I love the cream highlighter from No7 as it gives the most beautiful ‘glow from within’ look.

For the eyes, I have another new discovery. The Max Factor Excess Shimmer cream eyeshadow in the shade 25 Bronze is so so pretty. It’s the perfect bronze shade with slight reddy undertones. Perfect with a little bit of Urban Decay’s Half Baked lightly swept over the top for the perfect bronzey/golden eye.

Last but not least is the lips – the star of the show! MAC’s Rebel is my all time favourite lip colour, and so fitting with this look.

What do you think? I would love to know you’re makeup picks for the festive season too!xx

Top 5 Nars Must Have Products

nars 1

nars 11

Recently i’ve been having a bit of a Nars moment; having “shopped my stash” i’ve fallen back in love with Nars’ products. Here’s a rundown of my top 5 Nars products, destined for everyone’s makeup bags.

The Nars Sheer Glow foundation has a lot of hype surrounding it, being a particular favourite with both YouTubers and Bloggers alike. It has medium, build-able coverage and leaves a satin finish on the skin, a little misleading regarding the “sheer glow” name. It is however perfect for nights out and special occasions, as it makes the complexion appear flawless. It has no SPF also, meaning it’s great for flash photography – although who really uses flash photography these days anyway! The one draw back to this product is that fact that it comes with no pump, meaning you have to pour it out onto your hand before use, something that can get a bit messy. With a price of (gulp) £33, it’s defiantly on the high end side of foundation, so wouldn’t be for everyone. I do however think that it’s a great one for makeup lovers who enjoy trying out all that’s on the market.

For palette lovers, Nars is a great choice of brand as they have a wide selection of beauties available. A favourite would have to be the “And God Made the Women” palette. It’s small and compact, making it a great one for travelling, or if you’re just wanting something to throw in your makeup bag. The shade range is gorgeous, and perfect for creating any eye look. It includes two matte shades, one being a light taupe and the other being a dark, chocolate brown, so perfect if you’re wanting to define the crease. It also comes with a light pink shimmer, ideal for highlighting the inner corner of the eye and the brow bone. Other shades include a shimmery black, great for eyeliner, and a stunning, almost metallic bronze. This is definitely the palette for neutral eyeshadow lovers. The shadows themselves are lovely quality, super pigmented in colour and have amazing blending ability. At £35 I think it’s not too bad a value for what you get. It also comes with a handy brush, and a travel size of the Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base; another favourite from us!

The Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base is another popular Nars product. This eyeshadow primer is to be used under eyeshadow to make the colours appear more vibrant and stay all day without creasing. Again, it is on the pricier side at £19.50, but this little tube lasts a surprisingly long time, and guarantes a seamless canvas for eye makeup. The sponge-tip makes application quick and easy, and thepackaging is small and sleek. You defiantly get what you pay for, and is a must have in everyone’s makeup bag.

The lipsticks from Nars don’t get enough recognition as they should, when up against competition such as MAC and YSL. They are however the best on the market in our opinion, in terms of quality and long lasting power. Catfight is a stunning mauve pink shade, that looks beautiful on so many skin tones. It’s a matte formula meaning it gives high intensity colour pay off and the ability to last all day without re-application. Like with all Nars products, the packaging is compact and sleek, something that  looks high end and professional. With 38 shades to choose from in the original range, from mattes, satins or sheer formulas, there’s no doubt that there’s a lipstick for everyone.

Last but not least are the blushes. This cult product comes with 33 shades, from shimmers to mattes. The colour Doucer is a gorgeous rose pink, one that looks stunning on paler skins. Having said that, with so many shades to choose from, there’s one that will suit everyone. The formula blends beautifully into the skin, however it is very pigmented, so you only need to tap your brush in slightly to get enough product.

This has been something on my shopping list for a while now, but i’m not going to lie, the price tag was the only thing putting me off, especially with my student budget. But during some late night online shopping I took the plunge and made a cheeky little order with Space NK. “Sheer Glow” is something that stood out to me with this foundation. Something that’s not going to be too heavy on my skin and at the same time giving me a ‘glow from within’ kind of complexion. I think this would defiantly be a winner for a few people, and I know now why there’s so much hype surrounding this product. The satiny finish leaves skin looking dewy, but not too shiny, perfect for those with more combination to dryer skin types.

Nars’ description of this product goes something a little like this; “Sheer Glow’s silky fluid delivers immediate hydration, evens skin tone and leaves the skin brighter and more radiant. Used daily, your skin’s texture improves over time, becoming softer, smoother and more luminous. Sheer Glow foundation provides weightless and buildable coverage, with a natural reliant finish”.

I think Nars hit the nail on the head, although i’m not completely convinced about the ‘softer skin over time’ statement, defiantly something i’ll have keep my eye on. I defiantly have noticed this is a buildable foundation, applied lightly giving you sheer to medium coverage yet layered up can leave skin with a fuller coverage. That’s what I love about this foundation, the fact that it’s great for all occasions. Perfect for an everyday lighter look, yet still ideal for more full coverage, occasion kind of look.

Summary//

My Shade – Mont Blanc (Light 2)
How I Apply – Real Techniques Bufing Brush
Lasting Power – On me, around 6-8 hours
Shade Range – 20 shades in total
Coverage – Medium to full
Skin types – Perfect for combination to dry
SPF? – No SPF (great for flash photography)
Finish – Satin

Down Sides//

The only down sides I would have to this foundation is 1. THERE’S NO PUMP – Why oh why Nars is there no pump. I mean yeah, you can buy a pump for around £3 at Space NK, but this foundation isn’t cheap, let alone additional cost of having to buy a pump. Just a little feature that I think would make a lot of people much happier. And 2. I would like to see maybe a few more shades in the range. Although 20 does seem like a fair few, but their mostly all yellow toned, not great if you have a naturally flusher looking complexion.

Overall this is a foundation that I am seriously in love with. Defiantly one I’m sure i’ll be using a loving for a while to come.

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Beauty sponges aren’t something that have only just come about, in fact I’ve wanted to try the Beauty Blender for the longest time, however the idea of paying £16.00 for a sponge cringes me slightly. That’s why when I saw that Real Techniques have their own spin on the infamous blender, I obviously wanted to give it a go for myself.

Real Techniques isn’t a brand that’s failed me in the past, and it certainly hasn’t now. The sponge blends your foundation seamlessly into the skin and leaves your complexion looking flawless. Not only that, but the addition of the tapered end means that it fits into the contours of your face perfectly, great for blending around the nose and under the eyes.

However, I would say that washing the sponge can be a little tricky, though I do know of cleaners like the Beauty Blender cleaner which is made specifically to wash makeup sponges. Defiantly one that I need to give a go. Overall I would say that this is something that I would recommend, and something that I have been using a lot more recently compared to my beloved Real Techniques Buffing Brush.

Mac’s Rebel Lipstick

IMG_9166 IMG_9169

Last week I received a rather exciting parcel, a parcel that beauty obsessions like me would possibly go crazy for. Yes, Mac  happened and I am so excited to share this little gem with you. I may have followed the crowd and put in a cheeky little order for Rebel Lipstick and boy am I glad I did. Not only is the colour stunning, but it’s perfect for this time of year. It may look scary in the bullet, but trust me, on the lips it’s a gorgeous blackcurrent shade.

One thing that puts me off Mac lipsticks is the smell. Some people I know like the scent, but for me it’s a little sickly. However, that’s beyond the point, because this post is meant to be about me raving about this lipstick. Rebel is a Satin finish, meaning it’s long-wearing and offer high opacity without being dry on the lips.

I would defiantly be wearing this shade all though out the festive season, it’s perfect for the winter months!

Benefit Sugarglam Fairies Gift Set

IMG_9038 There’s nothing I like better than a good gift set, and when I saw this one from Benefit, I just couldn’t resist. Okay, so maybe it’s not christmas yet and maybe I don’t need to buy anymore makeup, but there was something about this that made me grab it and run straight towards the till. I’ve wanted to try all of the products in the set for such a long time, and seeing as all but one are full size (which is unusual for Benefit sets) it was an instant hit for me. The set includes Hoola Bronzer, The Porefessional Primer, They’re Real Mascara and a mini of Benetint.

All of the products are everything I expected and more. The They’re Real being my favourite..it makes your lashes look incredible! I also love how versatile Benetint is, I use it not only on my cheeks to add a rosy glow, but it makes a great lip stain, without making your lips dry and chapped. And I can’t do this post without mentioning Hoola bronzer. This stuff really lives up to it’s expectations. It’s the perfect shade for me as i’m quite pale, but I still think it would suit a wide range of skin tones. It’s totally matte, making it not only great for a overall bronze but also makes a perfect contour shade. Lastly, The Porefessional Primer. I have heard so much hype about this product, and I can see why. It really does minimise the appearance of pores, and leaves your skin with a silky soft base ready for applying your foundation.

At only £44.50, this set is such a steal and would make a great Christmas present or a cheeky little gift for yourself. If you have any other Benefit recommendations or any other brands, then I would love to know!

Polishing Off The Week

20140216-132948.jpg

I’m not usually one for a super dark nail, but recently I’ve been loving dark, nearly black shades like this one. China Glaze is a nail polish brand that I’ve always loved, and I’ve had this in my collection for a while without using it. It’s the perfect grey/black, which is perfect for this time of year. I’ve had it on for a good 3-4 days so far and have only noticed minor chipping, so pretty good. The polish itself applies effortlessly and lease your nails with a gel-like shine. I would defiantly recommend!
